The Salaputia Brass Quintet was founded in 2007 by five members of the German National Youth Orchestra. Since then, their shared passion for chamber music and the distinctive sound of the brass quintet has formed the artistic foundation of the ensemble. Early in its career, the quintet won prizes at national and international competitions. The musicians have also received support from the Erwin Fricke Foundation and the German Foundation for Musical Life.
Today, the Salaputia Brass Quintet is regarded as one of Germany’s distinguished brass ensembles. The musicians have performed at renowned festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Aschaffenburg Bach Festival. International engagements have taken the quintet to the United States, Mexico, China and France. In Washington, D.C., the ensemble provided the music for the presentation of the Eric M. Warburg Prize to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In 2016, it toured China for several weeks with the Windsbach Boys’ Choir.
The quintet’s repertoire ranges from original classical works to its own arrangements and compositions. Through thoughtfully curated programmes, Salaputia Brass combines the highest artistic standards with virtuosity, infectious enthusiasm and engaging presentation. The musicians are also committed to expanding the brass repertoire and establishing new music for brass instruments within the classical concert tradition.
The members of the quintet also perform with renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble. Since 2011, they have additionally performed as part of the larger ensemble Salaputia Brass.
The Salaputia Brass Quintet consists of Peter Dörpinghaus and Lukas Reiß on trumpet, Felix Baur on horn, Philip Pineda Resch on trombone and Joel Zimmermann on tuba.
