The renowned Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg is filling its imaginary box of chocolates piece by piece and releasing the album ‘Mozart: Posthorn Serenade’. It is the fifth instalment in a series of six releases that the orchestra began in August 2023 together with the Berlin Classics label. With the new album, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg is now returning to its musical roots and is once again devoting itself to works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Serenade for Orchestra No. 9 in D major, K. 320, also known as the Posthorn Serenade, is framed by the two marches, K. 335 No. 1 and No. 2. The orchestra is led by the German conductor Reinhard Goebel, who succeeded Nikolaus Harnoncourt as Professor of Historical Performance Practice at the Mozarteum Salzburg in 2010. There is probably no other artist who has such extensive knowledge of historical performance practice on the one hand and who knows so many composers and works between the Baroque and late Classical periods on the other. He takes a fresh look at seemingly familiar works, freeing them in his performances from the ballast of the overgrown traditions of the late 19th century.
