One comes from Germany and has found his second home on Mallorca; the other comes from there and now lives in New York; both have travelled the world as musicians and met in Poland in 2018. How else could the result of the intensive collaboration between Francisco Fullana and Matthias Kirschnereit be called anything other than ‘Cosmopolitan’?

An invitation took them to the Krzyzowa Festival Music for Europe, where they performed Ignacy Paderewski’s Violin Sonata op. 13. They were immediately captivated by the expressiveness of the music and their musical understanding. They performed Paderewski’s sonata several times, expanded their repertoire and finally came up with the programme from which this album was created. The programme begins with Claude Debussy’s Sonata in G minor, followed by Leoš Janáček’s Violin Sonata, which Fullana describes as ‘music from another planet’. The programme concludes with Paderewski’s Sonata in A minor – a furious climax with a heroic gesture and cathartic effect. The recordings were made in the familiar atmosphere of Mallorca for both musicians – a musical journey through three eras, three styles and three unique worlds of sound.
